We drop right into this very serious episode. It’s the season-ender, after all.

[Sidebar- do “seasons” even mean anything with regard to TV shows anymore? How long is a season? When do seasons start and end? No one can tell me. There are no actual answers. The word “season” has become meaningless with regard to TV shows. Why are we even calling them that?]

Only thing worse than working your first service is being locked in a box while other people work your first service without you.

Anyway, we begin mid-action. Syd is very seriously running the expo line for our very first service out of The Bear kitchen line. It’s Friends and Family Night, bitches! Where the very worst parts of first-service jitter-glitches come crashing into the very worst parts of every dysfunctional relationship in your life! Woo hoo!

Typical of restaurant people, we figure if we make it as horribly difficult as possible and apply as much pressure and stress as we can the very first time we do something, while also making sure we’re running on zero sleep and possibly hungover, well… it can only get better from there, right?

I’m not saying things are going to go horribly wrong with this season finale first night of Bear service with Carm just starting out in a new lovey-dovey relationship, and with his mom coming. It’s not like with Syd and Richie’s entire career/lives riding on the more or less instant success of this operation, the stakes are high or anything. I mean — no pressure, guys. We all work best when we’re focused and relaxed, right? Well rested. Focused.

Did I say focused?

And….roll! Syd is the pic you’d see in the dictionary next to the word “focus” as we drop in. Dramatic music doubles down on seriousity. Our service is already chugging right along. “pick up broth for 2, pick up fish for 4.”….”walking focaccia, please and thank you. Can I get hands!?”

Hummin’ like a finely-tuned frikkadel, ya mamalukes!

“Looking good, guys? Everybody feelin’ good?” — chef Syd

“Yes, Chef!” — chef chorus
